This place is located in an area with a diverse number of Korean bakeries. I always order a waffle with a gelato. Although this place is famous for their honey bread (you MUST try it out) I always order a waffle. It takes a horribly long time to wait for the food to come out, (-1)but you can watch the TV that they have in the comfy environment. The waffle is always made perfectly with that sugary feeling with cinnamon and a nice crunch. The gelato is vanilla, (but you can pick something else) thick, rich, and creamy. The staff are very nice. It's a bit pricey, (-1) so only come here when you feel like spending money.

Went to cafe bene for some dessert after lunch. A friend and I decided to split a coffee bingsu (ice parfait). They are big enough for at least 2 people. After receiving our order we noticed that the dessert had walnuts. My friend is highly allergic to walnuts. She went to the counter to purchase another ice parfait without nuts. They asked her if something was wrong and she explained. They decided to make her a new one nut free. They refused her to pay for a new one despite her willingness to pay. The customer service was above and beyond. The ice parfait was very good too. It was just like the ones I used to buy in Korea. I would give this location more than five stars if I could.

Caffe Bene, Caffe Bene...so much promise, such high prices! I was stoked to see this new cafe open up in the developing plaza...and even happier to walk inside and see its cute trendy sparkle! BUT...$6 for a specialty coffee is REALLY pushing it. Even their food items were high priced. And service was deeply unsatisfying; I waited 15 minutes for my coffee and had to remind the barista, who waived away another worker who'd offered to lend a hand. In this area which has so many little Korean coffee shops, prices and service really should get more in line...hopefully this place turns around!

Best new cafe/bakery visit for last in the area? .. Don't think so, I might have to go back to Snow Cafe and give it 5 stars this time :D (if they bring back glass plates instead of using paper cups for the shaved ice desserts). Anyways, Bene's menu is great, and I got to try the Spicy Chicken Hot Sandwich, Caramel/Cinnamon Honey Bread and Blueberry/Cream Cheese Waffle.. seeing what they had, their desserts are a little bit more focused on just pasting sweet/fatty ingredients together though.

Loved the Chicken Teriyaki hot sandwhich! The ingredients were fresh and tasty as was the sauce. My Mango shake was delicious as well. Kids snacked on the cookies until the amazing honey, waffle pancakes came out! Service was courteous and prompt.

The coffee is one of the worst cups of coffee Ive ever tasted. When we got the coffee it was almost cold so we sent it back and the new cup, after I reminded them that we had been waiting 10 minuets for our replacement cup, was just bad. I love good coffee and this just tasted cheap and sour and watery.

    Good waffles and drinks!

Place is definitely overpriced and food is not the greatest. I wouldn't recommend anyone. They have their own speciality bread, which is yummy and nice, but it gets dry because they don't put enough sauce on it - and charge you 7 dollars for it. the interior is however very pleasant and a great place to take your friends for a talk.

Tasty desserts and nice atmosphere. Pricey, I guess because the portions are large, meant for sharing with at least 3-4 people. Good hangout spot.

What they have going for them is the ambiance and atmosphere--it's really cozy and feels inviting to study there for several hours without feeling pressure to buy something (although I did get a green tea latte which was $4.25 when I added a "light bubbles" for 50 cents). The staff are nice, young people who are courteous. There are two main things that I don't like as much and those are: 1. The prices: as many have mentioned...and it's not the price itself, it's what you get for the price that is off-putting. It's unsatisfying to pay $4-5 or more plus tax and get a small cup of beverage. It's something I hope they consider changing. 2. The pastry selection: I'm not attracted at all to the danishes and other pastries that look more European/American. I want Asian, dammit. I'm aware they have waffles and honey bread, but is it really worth the price? Again, if these were BIGGER in size, I might be able to justify in my head that ok, I'll spend $7.50 on a stack of bread and split it with friends. But then I quickly think to myself...I can get a stack of french toast at IHOP for $5...

The only thing I ended up getting was an Americano because everything was more expensive than I had expected for a cafe. The Americano was not strong at all. Their paper cup and lid also gave off an unpleasant odor. The storefront is cute and has relaxing music. But the bingsoo is like $12 compared to around $7 at other Korean bakeries. I could get a proper meal at that price point elsewhere. Oh and Wi-Fi was down the entire time.

There is no shortage of Asian inspired cafes and bakeries in Ellicott City but Cafe benne has a cozy vibe that stands out from some of the rest. There is coffee and a variety of pastries to try. The tables are cute but not super comfortable for studying. I see it as more of a place to meet friends or a casual date night. I ordered a drip coffee (pretty standard) and a waffle with yogurt and strawberries. The waffle was great! Nice and crisp on the outside with a tender middle, and a sweet caramelized flavor to the bottom. The yogurt and fruit made for a nice light breakfast treat. The whole thing set me back about 8 dollars which isn't cheap but I enjoyed my meal. It'd be nice if it were a dollar cheaper given the small size. I'd love to try the waffle with gelato next time!

  • Jihea P.

No matter how good the drinks are, I refuse to wait 15 minutes for a drink...especially if it's caused by baristas making my drink last and rushing giant ice parfaits who ordered after me. Didn't realize sweet talking the baristas was a necessary skill to order a drink. One star for crappy unprofessional service.

  • Young-Ju C.

They are clean and nice. But bingsu was so expensive for its quality. We ordered mango bingsu and it was $15, and their coffee like Carmel macchiato is also expensive for tall it was $5. But I really like the environment. I would go there again.

  • Seong L.

When you walk inside, the first thing you notice about this cafe is also the best part of the cafe (or is it caffe?).... Which is the pleasant atmosphere/environment. It has very nice interior decor and just the overall ambience is quite attractive. I can see many people going here with their friends just for the environment. The food and drinks, however, leave a lot to be desired. So far I've tried their buffalo chicken sandwich and a variety of their bread. It's not that they're necessarily bad, but they aren't anything to rave about. Quite average, really. And considering the higher than average price, you'd think that they would serve better than average food. Not the case here. The servings are on the smaller side too. I would like to see them lower the prices on their menu to retain/create more repeat customers. And with so many of these types of businesses just on rt 40, I wouldn't bother coming here unless it's your first time... Or to hang out... Or to study.

Ate the strawberry whipped cream waffle and the mango yogurt bingsoo. It was very refreshing and the perfect amount of sweet-- a good ending after a nice lunch! All the food comes out nicely decorated and they have quite a bit on the menu, ranging from hot sandwiches to cold dessert type cafe items to various drinks like smoothies or teas or coffee.

Greeted with a smile. EXCELLENT BREW ALL THE TIME!!They also have a wonderful variety of desserts and other items that are never anything less than fresh and well-assembled. Try strawberry honey bread. It is fantastic! Very nice place to sit and talk over.

  • Kabir Y.

Nice decor and very interesting deserts. Coffee was okay but not bad. The worse thing about the experience was that they had the AC off on a hot 85 deg day and lied saying that it was broken. Then magically it turned on within 5 min of me complaining about it. I though that was pretty cheap!

Fresh brewed gourmet coffee and terrific foods. Specially you will love the honey bread with strawberry topping. Interior is awesome as well. Must visit!!

  • Paola R.

2 words: good but expensive. Nice ambience, great decor, tasty sweets. Definitely not the place to study but more so to catch up with friends. The place makes you feel like you're in Korea. Staff is really friendly. The sweet menu is decent but a bit expensive for what it is. Overall, good experience

  • Riley K.

Pretty good food, but it is way too pricey. Would love to see the prices come down! Not sure if the quality of their food is worth that much money. Besides that, I recommend their mojitos and their waffles!

Good dessert place. Tried the Green tea and red bean bingsoo. So good. Finally get this place nearby. Also I bought the blueberry scone, wild berry cheese cake, chocolate moose cake for breakfast. The wild berry is a little bit too sour.

plenty of parking out front. located near honey pig.. you can use the same road to enter.. to get to honey pig you make a right but caffe bene is in the new buildings on the left right next to soft stuff. hours: 6am-11pm wifi pw: caffebene (lowercased.. it's printed on the receipt but i barely look at the receipt) they take all credit cards staff can be friendly and welcoming. they were pleasant to me and my friend and we stayed awhile but as we stayed for about 5 hours i saw on of the girl employees get upset and frustrated. honestly i think a lot of people knew. the way she would call out orders and etc.. she sounded annoyed and would roll her eyes.. i mean one group of customers were obnoxious but she should've stayed calm and should have been professional. on the other hand, one of the other girl employees did such a great job! she was super friendly to everyone and would smile and was just super sweet and professional. caffe bene is known for their honey bread.. my friend has been to caffe bene in korea and so she thought it would be the same but NOPE not the same at all. the honey bread in korea is supposedly better, but what's the point of talking about how it is in korea. anyways i expected the honey bread to be crunchy and toasty but soft and it was not that at all. it was toasty but the bread in the middle was dense and dry and i did not like it! i was very disappointed because i did have high expectations. my friend and i ordered the strawberry and cream and banana and walnut honey bread. the strawberries on the bread were fresh and i think the banana walnut bread could have used more walnuts. we also ordered the misugaru latte (misugaru is a grain powder drink and is on the sweet side). i later ordered the affogato and cappucino. the cappucino was good. the affogato was okay (you have the options of vanilla, green tea, or strawberry gelato). the misugaru latte and frappe seem to be very popular. the mojito drinks also seem to be popular. i also tried the almond croissant and the croissant was very good! i don't think they make the croissants in the store though. i also don't think they make the macarons they sell. they also have mighty tea leaf for their tea selections. because i am still curious and the cafe is fairly new i will probably try the other honey breads. the place is a lot bigger than i expected. it can get crowded around 8-10 (at least it did on a wednesday night.. lots of old korean adults and a few younger college students) the cafe is cute. the chair i sat on was super low.. kinda weird low but my friend and i got use to it. i hope the one in rockville and annandale are a lot better than this location.

Things here are pretty expensive and the menu is small. I had a mediocre taro bubble tea with bubbles that were hard. $5.25 for that disappointment is not cool!

I really enjoyed the iced misugaru latte and garlic and cheese honey bread. My husband had the strawberry and cream cheese waffle and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We are definitely fans of this charming new place!

Love the ambience here. I can imagine having a lot of pep talks here. The drinks are good, but since the staff is new, I know they'll get even better!

  • K C.

These 2 stars are based on the following that I had: 1. Iced coffee - disappointing. A little pricier than Starbucks. Tasted dilute. 2. Spinach croissant - Nice flaky crust. If they can warm it up for you, make sure to ask them! In general, things were on the expensive end. Since I'm a coffee drinker... I was quite sad about their iced-coffee... Otherwise, a nice place to sit down and work. Make sure to bring a jacket because it gets a little chilly w/the AC.

  • Yaka H.

Definitely a place to try out to grab a coffee, have a dessert (bingsoo and honey toast), and sip/eat slowly over conversation. Savory foods are more limited here, but we tried the spicy chicken sandwich. It's on lovely crusty bread with the spicy chicken dressed in a buffalo chicken-style sauce. The honey toast can be best explained as a "dry" french toast; it has the richness of french toast, minus the custard soak of french toast. It's a large serving of the cottony soft bread milk bread, cubed in a hasselback potato kinda way, toasted, and dolloped with generous portions of whipped cream, honey, and other yummy things (depending on which kind you order). It's easy to devour. A touch on the pricey side, but compared to other options in the area that is similar in seating availability and dessert menu, Caffe Bene is one of the leading contenders. I do appreciate that Caffe Bene factors presentation into the value of their products. This makes eating out with friends even more fun and special.

Caffe Bene is a Korean bakery / cafe that recently popped up in the Forest Green shopping center. I have to say, I was really excited for this place to open because it was somewhere that I frequented fairly often when I used to live and work in Korea. I've been to this location a handful of times since its grand opening and have some mixed feelings about this place... but overall, I feel it deserves its four star rating. For one, it has a wonderful atmosphere. It's inviting and cozy. The interior design of the space is exactly like the interior design of the shops in Korea... I thought that was kind of cool. Service here has been good, though occasionally slow. In terms of food and drinks, there is a decently sized menu from which to pick items from. While the pastry selection is definitely lacking compared to other Korean bakeries in the area (like Tous Les Jours, Shilla, and Bon Appetite), what is there do look very pretty and well-made. However, Caffe Bene's claim to fame isn't its pastries, but rather, its honey toast. There are different types but they are all very delicious. Other popular options include the Korean shaved ice dessert (bingsoo). If you want heavier foods, there is a selection of sandwiches. I personally haven't tried them though so I can't comment on their quality. The coffee here is okay. It's good but also nothing amazing. There are also specialty drinks like non-alcoholic mojito which, while good and refreshing, don't really taste like mojitos. They also are pretty pricey--a medium drink will set you back nearly $6. One of the more interesting--but also somewhat disappointing--drinks here is the misugaru latte. Misugaru is a traditional Korean grain powder that's supposed to be healthy and good for you. The misugaru latte is a good idea...unfortunately, I feel like the powder doesn't dissolve well, leaving a half centimeter or so of undissolved powder in the lattes (both iced and hot). The undissolved powder also gives the drink a little bit of a grainy texture. I wish that they would pre-make a concentrated misugaru solution, strain it, and then pour it into the latte. It would be sooooo good then. So yeah, it's a little bit of a disappointment. Overall, Caffe Bene is a fun place. However, it is also a bit on the pricey side and some items, like the misugaru latte, ought to be executed better to be worth the price. But overall, I'd still have no issues with coming here.

The place is cute but the food is ridiculously expensive, compared to the other Korean bakeries that are located on rt 40. The ice cream (bingsoo) are an average size but the cost is not an average cost you would see. Honestly, it is not worth getting $10 bingsoos when you can get the same quality at other bakeries for under $10. However, they have the honey bread, which is actually delicious. However, sometimes, the crust can be a little too chewy and stale. I ordered a small ice coffee, but the size was the size of a water cup. I was so shocked to see the small size. I could get a small ice coffee at Starbucks for the same price, but Starbuck's small cup is way larger! I felt I was getting ripped off and their coffee was a-okay. I felt it tasted old, nothing special. In addition, I think their service is not the best. I was treated very rudely by one of the cashiers while I was there. I don't think I will be going anytime soon, since the service rubbed me off the wrong way and the food is not worth the extravagant price.

I haven't been impressed by any of the Korean bakeries around town but this one is my exception. They make their honey breads exceptionally tasty. The crust is crunchy but the interior of the bread is super soft. The caramel sauce/cinnamon sugar they put over it compliments the sweetness of the bread so well! We also tried their muffin. Unlike other Korean bakeries, their muffins are super moist! Now onto their drinks... my dad is pretty picky with his coffee but they made it so well that he was surprised! I got their caramel macchiato which was sweet but still strong (I could tell because I didn't have to struggle through staying awake the rest of the day) Ambience is modern and the place is clean. It's a great place to chit chat with friends. They have croissants, waffles, bubble teas and so much more! I look forward to coming back here~

My first thought was "Does Ellicott City really need another coffee shop?". This thought was followed up by "Wow it is even more over priced than the others". I resisted the urge to leave and I'm glad I did. Their bubble tea is delicious. It is super rich, almost like it has churned butter. The tapioca balls tasted like they were toasted caramel. It is over priced, but damn tasty.

  • VyVy V.

It has a really nice atmosphere and I love the setup in the restaurant. However, I think everything was overpriced for the portion of the food. I normally wouldn't mind paying that same price if it was a larger serving, but they have the "samples" out for you to see what you're ordering and it's not very big at all.

Caffe Bene...what a sweet surprise for the area. Ambiance: rustic feel, but comfy and somewhat modern in how everything is laid out. Service: quick. Quirky note...the staff wear these cutesy uniforms with a matching beret. Never seen anything like it, but I definitely knew who was working and who was a patron lol. What we drank/ate: 1. Latte: perfect temperature, great taste...I'd order again 2. Strawberry frappe: I was so jealous that I didn't order this! It looked so fun and my friend said it was equally tasty. 3. Waffle with blueberry and cream cheese: Waffle was cooked to perfection. Nice and crispy on the outside, ooey gooey fluffiness on the inside. What caught me off guard was the fact that the cream cheese was literally a dollop of cream cheese. I was expecting a creamy "sauce" of sorts. Either way, I ended up mixing the cream cheese with the blueberry sauce... it worked so well with the waffle! 4. Banana walnut honey bread: First of all, this thing is huge! I would suggest a party of two sharing one of these. The soft, warm, sweet bread coupled with the lightly caramelized bananas and walnuts made for the perfect combo. This was heaven in a bite. Would definitely suggest Caffe Bene to anyone in the area. Usually have to go into the city to find places like this.

I would like to say this is the best Korean bakery in this area. The food is so delicious and the drinks are freshly made in front of you. The service is great. The food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. There is a lot of comfortable and hip seating. This is a franchise bakery. They have locations in New York to even Cali. I have been to a lot of the different one in the different locations. I would say that this one is a lot smaller and less stylish than the other franchised locations. This location has less seating than the other locations. I suggest the brick bread toast. They are so fluffy and melt in your mouth good. The bread itself is a bit sweet and has a caramelized toasted crust. You won't regret this order. I do have to say that they use a lot of artificial flavors in their drinks. I am sure of this based on the taste. I can tell they don't use real fruits in their drinks. Their drinks consist of mostly sugared fruits, and not fresh fruits. If you want a hot drink, my favorite of all time is the green tea latte, yummmmm!

if i had a huge never ending stomach, i would order and try every item off the menu. and on top of that, risk diabetes. my friend and i got the mitsugaru red bean ice parfait and caramel cinnamon honey toast. OMG THE HONEY TOAST it is SO. GOOD. it's not overwhelmingly sweet, but just enough to hit that sweet spot. the crust is crunchy and the inside is all soft and warm. The toppings for it is so good. Just thinking about it makes my stomach rumble. You must, MUST try it if you go there. The mitsugaru red bean at first sight seems bland, but the top is loaded with almond halves, i'm assuming mitsugaru powder, mochi, and vanilla ice cream. the ice is well coated in some sort of sweetener (i wanted to same condensed milk but it's probably not) and has good flavor. it doesn't seem big but trust me it's more than enough with 2 people. I definitely would go back here again, i heard the mitsugaru latte is bangin. plus the decor is soooo nice. it's got this rustic feel, but makes you feel at home! kind of like you're in a cabin -1 for pricey. red bean was like 11 bucks, the honey toast was about 6.5.

2 bucks for a bottled water... Pay an extra dollar and you get a small bubble tea. Either way, this place is expensive and come to find out, you can ask them for a cup of water for free.... I'm Korean and I'm aware that many Koreans come to these bakeries after dinner to sip on drinks, converse, and eat light snacks, but damn, can you at least lower the prices for bottled water? Sheesh... I'm not a big fan of too-sweet drinks so I usually just get water at these places. Every bakery (6) off Route 40 is pretty much overpriced. It's not necessarily a bad thing if you're willing to pay that much, but bottled water for 2 BUCKS?! WHY.... That price is like amusement park price. That shouldn't even be legal. :P Aside from that, the place looks pretty cool. I go here sometimes with like 10 of my friends, in which we take up a quarter of their space. I tried their Double Shot Espresso and that made me stay awake for almost 2 whole days before crashing and gaining a migraine + sores in mouth due to lack of sleep. It's strong. I mean stronger than those Vietnamese coffee drinks. But then again, the espresso wasn't really sweet so maybe the Viet Coffee IS stronger, just sweeter? Anyways it tasted like an espresso; not very good and bitter aftertaste. I also tried their Mango uhh.... The big cup full of Ice Cream, Mango pieces and sludge, whipped cream and other toppings. It was way too sweet. After taking 1 bite, I felt my teeth starting to tremble in fear of taking another bite. If you love sweet then I'm certain you'll love these "treats". The seats? Oh no... The booth I sat on, by the bathrooms, were like ROCKS. Wooden seats felt like I was sitting on pure rock. What I did like about the place is that they have a bunch of books on the walls and I skimmed through a few. I'm not sure if we're able to pick up and read the books or not, but some of them were interesting. I also liked the ambiance and how clean the place was. Double Shot Espresso is the way to go if you really need to stay awake for a long period of time.

Two bummers: they didn't carry 2% milk (unsure if they're just out or if they will never carry it?) - and - the coffee tasted pretty mediocre... I wish the coffee was better (both for hot and cold drinks)... Tasted a bit on the bitter or burnt side, instead of the smooth taste... But, I'm still giving it 4 stars because honestly this place has the best seating so far on Rt 40 ~ in terms of space and tables for small to large groups.

Very nice and hip environment. Friendly staff that prides their work. Decor creates a cozy and inviting place to sit down and chat or study Chocolate frappe - thick, smooth, and very rich in chocolatey goodness 5/5 Whipped cream and strawberry waffle - perfect balance of crisp outside with fluffy inside, and sweet delicious flavor. One of the best waffles I've ever had! 5/5 Definitely coming back

I came here again and this time tried bubble tea and banana honey bread. Both are excellent. I had the hot bubble tea, which is somewhat diffucult to come by in this area. The bubble is chewy but not tough, just perfect. The taro flavor is quite nice as well, not too sweet. This is the first time I have the honey bread. It is very tasty. Not overly sweet or rich. But it is subtle and well balanced. The exterior is a little crusty and the inside is moist and slightly chewy. I truely enjoyed them. Plus, the odor from remodling is gone and I got to notice that the decor is simple yet trendy. The chairs are actually quite comfortable. The cashier is quite nice as well. Overall, a great place.

This place is to die for. From decor to their desserts, everything was perfect. This place is the perfect spot to lounge around with your friends and talk about life. It has a really relaxing and bright atmosphere. Service was great and desserts were all scrumptious. I tried their green tea bingsoo. I was surprised at the amount of details that they put into this usually sloppy dessert. Every layer was perfect and all the toppings were placed neatly on top of the green tea shaved ice. It came with a scoop of delicious green tea ice cream and they put a generous serving of whip cream on top of everything. They added nice touches of detail that let me appreciate this so much more. Like a sprinkle of green tea matcha on top of everything and a cute little chocolate chip with their logo on it. Omg! Their waffles are so good! You have to try them. It is freshly made, so you get a hot crunchy and sweet waffle with various toppings on top. I got the banana and walnuts. I can't wait to try other desserts on their menu.

Having moved from California to Baltimore, I always found the lack of asian food in the city dissapointing so when I realized there was a Caffe Bene in Ellicot City I was so excited! I've had high expectations having been to the Caffe Bene in LA and Seoul so I expected the same standards as back then. The caffe layout is super cute and has adorable decor over with a giant clock whose paint is peeling off. Service was attentive, there weren't many people when we went in so our orders came out fast. My friends and I ordered: - Mango Bingsoo - HUGE took 6 of us to finish it. Usually when I order bingsoo, I want more toppings but this one somehow had TOO many toppings (how is that possible?!) Tons of fresh mango (but very unripe so wasn't too great :/), Yogurt, Condensed Milk, Strawberry ice cream & ice mm. It would have been good if it weren't for the vast amounts of unripe mango. The ice cream was the best part. - Bubble Milk Tea - Alright. They put SO much ice in here probably about half of the drink was ice. Super sweet and the boba was incredibly hard. Overall I'd just come for the desserts, perhaps a different flavor though and I'm not sure if I'd try another drink :/

Best iced Americano I've ever had!!!! Their coffee is air roasted, which is a caffee bene exclusive. And do not be thrown off by their overpriced shaved ice, you get your money's worth!!! It's big enough for four people to share and perfectly topped with enough toppings to last you till the very last bite!
